Monarchs fend off Storm

Sara Lawson scored 16 points and Erin Buescher added 14 to help the Sacramento Monarchs rally for a 76-74 victory over the Seattle Storm on Saturday in Sacramento, Calif.

Betty Lennox scored a season-high 23 points for Seattle, which had its two-game winning streak snapped. Lauren Jackson added 17 points and nine rebounds, and Barbara Turner had 14 points. The Monarchs controlled Sue Bird, who had five points, four assists and six of the Storm’s 23 turnovers.

Mystics 88, Liberty 70: At Washington, Alana Beard scored 26 points, including 10 straight to open the fourth quarter, and Nikki Teasley scored a career-high 26 to lead the Mystics to a victory over New York.

Shock 71, Comets 55: At Auburn Hills, Mich., Deanna Nolan had 20 points and eight rebounds and Cheryl Ford added her second straight double-double (18 points, 12 rebounds), to lead Detroit past Houston.

Silver Stars 69, Sky 65: At Chicago, Agnieszka Bibrzycka had 16 points and four steals to lead San Antonio past the Sky.

Sparks 82, Sun 70: At Los Angeles, Lisa Leslie matched her career-high with 32 points and Christi Thomas added 16 points and 11 rebounds as the Sparks beat Connecticut.
