‘Speed’ pair are still fast friends
Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves are back together again, but this time, there’s no bomb on a bus to worry about.
The pals, both 41, co-star in the new romance fantasy “The Lake House” – their first film together since “Speed” 12 years ago.
They talk about love, life and surviving labels:
Q: Keanu, you’ve been doing more romantic leads. There was “Something’s Gotta Give,” now this.
B: The women of America have demanded it.
R: I’m only responding to demand.
B: I just love working with him. You’re like a dream. I love, love, love your being present and your willingness to do anything, any style. Not many people are able to do that. His stuff is so diverse. He doesn’t get labeled.
Q: And you’ve been labeled America’s sweetheart.
B: I think I’ve been bypassed. I’ve given up the title. There are other sweethearts out there. It’s not an easy torch to be carrying.
Q: Was there anything in the movie that made you think specifically about your own relationships?
B: I’ve never been a blind romantic. I’ve been blindsinded by it, but I myself …
R: (Guffaws)
B: What?
R: I really enjoyed that line. “I’ve never been a blind romantic. I’ve been blindsided by it.” Very clever.
Q: Sandra, you recently married “Monster Garage” star Jesse James. How’s it going?
B: It’s been a little under a year.
Q: You could still go on “The Newlywed Game.”
R: (feigning an announcer’s booming voice) Celebrity Newlywed Game! Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt vs. Sandra Bullock and Jesse James! It’s a showdown! It’s a championship! For charity!
B: Forget that. I’d take the money.
R: (still booming) It’s not for charity!
B: When you humiliate yourself and publicly divulge it, you deserve to pocket it.
