Woman jumps from moving van

A 41-year-old Spokane woman jumped from a moving van Thursday night and suffered what police described as “severe head injuries.”

The woman, whose name wasn’t released, was taken to Deaconess Medical Center. She was reported to be in serious but stable condition.

Officer Bill Hager said the woman jumped about 9:45 p.m. just north of the intersection of Hamilton Street and North Foothills Drive. He didn’t know how fast the southbound van was going when the woman jumped, “but the speed limit is 30 mph, and people usually do 35.”

The woman was not struck by the van or another vehicle, Hager said.

He said the woman’s boyfriend, who was the driver, was being questioned about what prompted the woman to jump.
