Curtis way out front at Booz Allen Classic
Ben Curtis moved closer to his first title since the 2003 British Open, shooting a 4-under-par 67 Saturday that gave him a five-stroke lead after three rounds at the Booz Allen Classic in Potomac, Md.
His rounds of 62, 65 and 67 put him at 19-under 213, breaking the tournament record through 54 holes. His shot of the day was an approach that landed a foot from the pin at No. 5, setting up his second birdie of the day.
Brett Quigley shot a 67 to put him at 14 under while 1996 champion Steve Stricker (66) and Sweden’s Daniel Chopra (67) are seven strokes off the lead.
Champions Tour
Tom Jenkins was 8 under par through 16 holes in the second round of the Commerce Bank Championship in East Meadow, N.Y., when play was suspended after a third rain delay.
Jenkins was 10 under for the tournament and had a one-stroke lead over Tom Wargo, who was 5 under for the round through 12 holes.
LPGA
Jeong Jang shot a 6-under 66 to take a one-stroke lead over fellow South Korean Mi Hyun Kim and rookie Brittany Lang after three rounds of the Wegmans LPGA in Pittsford, N.Y.
Another South Korean, rookie Sun Young Yoo, was tied for fourth at 8 under alongside Marcy Hart, Wendy Ward of Edwall, Wash., and Italy’s Silvia Cavalleri. Ward shot a 70 in the third round.
Tracy Hanson of Rathdrum is tied for 28th place at 3-under 213.
