Free movies play at Valley Mall

Steve Christilaw Correspondent

It’s now, officially, summer. The kids are home from school and looking for something to do.

Regal Cinemas at the Spokane Valley Mall is ready to help.

The theater is hosting its third annual Free Family Film Festival through Aug. 23.

“Some of the theaters in the Regal chain participate in this series, and we’re fortunate enough to be able to offer it,” said Teina Benson, general manager of the Spokane Valley 12 cinema. “We get a lot of families come in to see the movies together.”

Tuesdays and Wednesdays, at 10 a.m. sharp, the theater will offer a free double feature of recently released films, all rated G and PG.

It should be noted that, while the movies are free, the popcorn isn’t.

“We do have some special combo packs available at the concession stand,” Benson said. “Last year one of our sponsors was Apple Jacks, so we gave out little boxes of cereal to everyone.

“This year we have another cereal as one of our national co-sponsors along with Animal Planet.”

The doors open at 9:15 a.m. each day, and Benson said the seats fill up quickly.
