Yankees 4, Braves 3 (12): At New York, Alex Rodriguez hit a two-run homer in the twelfth, breaking his 2-for-20 slump and lifting New York over Atlanta. `

Tigers 5, Astros 0: At Detroit, Justin Verlander threw a three-hitter for eight innings and Detroit took advantage of several defensive miscues by Houston. The Tigers have won six straight and 17 of their last 20 games.

Twins 6, Dodgers 3: At Minneapolis, Johan Santana pitched seven shutout innings and Torii Hunter hit a grand slam to lead Minnesota to its seventh straight victory.

Red Sox 10, Mets 2: At Boston, Pedro Martinez allowed eight runs in three innings, leaving early after his worst performance with New York.

Devil Rays 3, Marlins 1: At Miami, Casey Fossum pitched strongly for five to help Tampa Bay defeat Florida and ending the Marlins’ nine-game home winning streak.

White Sox 4, Pirates 3: At Pittsburgh, The Pirates set a team record with its 13th consecutive loss, blowing a three-run lead in the seventh. Chicago’s Juan Uribe hit a bases-loaded triple to key Chicago’s four-run comeback.

Blue Jays 6, Nationals 1: At Toronto, Ted Lilly pitched six shutout innings to win his third consecutive start and Frank Catalanotto drove in three runs to help Toronto beat Washington.

Orioles 7-12, Phillies 4-5: At Baltimore, Erik Bedard extended his run of scoreless innings to 16 in the matinee and the Orioles erupted for 20 hits in the second game of a split doubleheader sweep of Philadelphia.

Reds 7, Royals 2: At Cincinnati, Ken Griffey Jr. hit the last of Cincinnati’s four homers and Aaron Harang pitched strongly giving up four hits, all of them singles.

Cardinals 5, Indians 4: At St. Louis, Mo., Jhonny Peralta’s throwing error, one of two by Cleveland in the ninth, handed St. Louis the victory ending an eight-game skid.

Giants 5, Rangers 1: At San Francisco, Ray Durham hit his fourth career grand slam to give Noah Lowry his second win in nine starts.

Padres 8, Athletics 1: At San Diego, Mike Cameron homered for the fourth time in five games and Mike Piazza also connected to lead San Diego over Oakland.

Rockies 6, Angels 2: At Anaheim, Garrett Atkins drove in the go-ahead run with an infield single in the eighth and Jorge Piedra added a three-run double.
