UCLA is the odds-on favorite to claim the conference title this week after California, previously tied with the Bruins, lost Sunday at Washington. Both the Golden Bears and the Huskies are one game back, but there still is a remote possibility that a five-way tie could happen. “I can’t figure out all that. It’s too complicated for me,” Cal coach Ben Braun said. … The kind words for WSU coach Dick Bennett are pouring in from coaches around the league following his retirement announcement on Tuesday. “I just want to say,” UCLA coach Ben Howland said, “what a special person he’s been and what a great ambassador for the game of basketball – how lucky we are here in the Pac-10 conference to have him coaching in the league the last three years.”
