Freeman boys hold on for win
YAKIMA – Luke Heinen made two free throws with 28 seconds left, and Cascade Christian couldn’t get a shot off in the final seconds as Freeman held off the Cougars 43-40 Wednesday in the first round of the boys State 1A tournament.
Heinen, who scored eight points, hit the free throws after Cascade Christian pulled within 41-40.
The Cougars called timeout with 10 seconds left, but then turned the ball over.
Freeman returned the favor, turning the ball over with 2 seconds left, but the Cougars could not get off a shot before the buzzer.
Jordan Williams led the Cougars with a game-high 18 points and teammate Ryan Everett had nine rebounds.
Mark Sanders led Freeman with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
