GSL teams take aim at state berths tonight

The Spokesman-Review

It’s state night for the Greater Spokane League.

Seven GSL basketball teams will be involved in tonight’s winners’ bracket games at the Con-Agra Foods/Lamb Weston Eastern Regional at Kennewick’s Toyota Center. At stake are berths to next week’s State 4A Tournament in Tacoma.

On the boys’ side, the GSL will send at least two teams to state, the winners of Gonzaga Prep (19-4) vs. Central Valley (19-5) at 7 p.m., and the Mt. Spokane (14-10) vs. Ferris game at 9. The losers still have a shot for the final East state berth, but must win two games on Saturday to advance.

The loser-out boys games tonight pit four Big Nine Conference schools: Southridge (18-6) vs. Eisenhower (21-3) at 7, and Richland (16-8) vs. Davis (14-11) at 9.

The GSL is assured one girls team in the state tournament, the winner of today’s 4 p.m. game between G-Prep (20-3) and University (20-3). Lewis and Clark (21-3) will try to earn a berth against Eisenhower (23-0) at 5:30.

The losing teams have to follow the two-wins-on-Saturday road to earn the third berth.

CV (14-10) faces Walla Walla (16-8) at 4 in a loser-out game. The other loser-out game pits Richland (16-6) against Pasco (13-10) at 5:30.
