Ham on Regal expects to surpass $1 million

Kandis Carper The Spokesman-Review

“The Ferrist of Them All,” the 43rd annual Ham on Regal stage production, opens on Sunday.

The musical revue has a cast of more than 200 Ferris High School parents.

This year’s production is a whimsical tale starring popular fairy tale and cartoon characters. Heroes, villains and detective try to solve the mystery of who broke the magic mirror, how to fix it and how to manage the fairy tale endings gone awry.

With this year’s show, the Ham on Regal parents will have raised more than $1 million for Ferris since its first production in 1963. All proceeds benefit the Ferris Parent Teacher Group.

Show dates and times: 2 p.m. Sunday for the “Gram on Regal” show. Senior citizens are free, and tickets are $5 for nonseniors.

Evening performances will be 7:30 Wednesday through March 18; tickets are $8.

Matinee will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday; tickets are $6.

Tickets are available at the Ferris business office, Second Look Books, Round Table Pizza or from any cast member or go to www.hamonregal.org.

Moran student wins contest

Zach Minnerly, a sixth-grader at Moran Prairie Elementary School, is the state winner in the first Letters about Literature writing contest.

Sixth-grade teacher Will Nye learned about the contest last November through Moran Prairie librarian Barb Stern. Each letter was written to an author whose book or books have had an impact on the student’s life.

Zach wrote to Jerry Spinelli.

Last week it was announced that Zach had won the state award in the fourth- to sixth-grade category. He is invited to attend an award ceremony April 18 in Olympia.

Zach’s letter will move forward to the national contest.
