Spring rolls ready by summer when Panda Express hits CdA

Nils Rosdahl The Spokesman-Review

Panda Express, a new Asian fast-food option for northwest Coeur d’Alene, is under construction along U.S. Highway 95 at Wilbur Avenue, near Pier 1 Imports.

Billed as offering gourmet Chinese food in a quick-service format, the 2,448-square-foot facility will have inside dining, a take-out counter and a drive-through window. Spokesman Jerald Earl in Vancouver, B.C., said the restaurant should open in June with about 15 employees. Hours will be 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

Starting in 1983 and with its headquarters in Rosemead, Calif., the Panda Express company has 835 restaurants in 37 states, Puerto Rico and Japan. It also owns 12 Hibachi-San Japanese Grill establishments and five Panda Inn restaurants, which feature Mandarin and Szechwan cuisine.

Assisted housing options grow

Construction should be complete in August on 69 new units for Coeur d’Alene Homes, an assisted-living facility with a river view. Plans include 35 beds for Alzheimer’s disease and dementia residents.

Many residents of the 45,000-square-foot, two-level building will move from the nearby Coeur d’Alene Homes building at 624 W. Harrison Ave., which has 36 units. The current building will be renovated for future use. The 12-acre campus also includes Heritage Place, an independent-living complex with 129 units for low-income people.

Coeur d’Alene Homes recently was awarded a $2 million federal grant for a new 25-unit independent living facility that will be built at the west end of Heritage Place. The timeframe for this construction has not been determined.

Owned by 25 churches in North Idaho, the organization has provided affordable housing for senior citizens for 83 years. Phone 664-8119 for information. Its Web sites are www.cdahomes.org and www.heritageplace.org.

Chinook Medical nearly done

Some occupants of the 100,000-square-foot Chinook Medical Center on Ironwood Drive west of Ironwood Athletic Club will move into their spaces in late spring. The four-level building has a partial basement, indoor parking for 24 cars and 291 spaces outside.

Occupants will include the Women’s Clinic of North Idaho (Drs. Fred Ambrose and Mary Sanderson); Health Care for Women (Drs. Jon Cutting and Brett Penney); Hennenberg & Associates OB/GYN clinic (Drs.
