Joseph Migliuri honored

Cadet Joseph Migliuri was recently named to the superintendent’s list at the Air Force Academy. Cadets must show excellence in academics, military performance and physical fitness to be eligible for the list. Migliuri, a 2003 graduate of Gonzaga Prep, is the son of Gary Migliuri of Spokane.

“ Three area residents recently graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.

Airman Jacob Clinesmith is a 2004 graduate of University High School.

Airman Katlin Merrick, a 2002 graduate of Mead High School, is the daughter of Polly Reichel of Colbert and Kevin Merrick of Milwaukie, Ore.

Airman Anthony Schmit, the son of Robert Schmit of Spokane, is a 2004 graduate of Cheney High School.

Emily Finkel of Spokane was recently named to the fall dean’s list at Northeastern University in Boston. Students must earn a grade-point average of 3.25 or better to be named to the list.

“ Three area residents were recently named to the second-quarter dean’s list at the University of Washington. They are: Andrew Beaton, Megan Schwab and Amanda Carson, all of Spokane.

David Hession of Spokane was recently named to the fall 2005 dean’s list at Saint Joseph’s University. Students must hold a grade-point average of 3.5 or better to be named to the list.

Zachary Slovarp of Spokane was recently awarded a $1,500 scholarship in the Elks Lodge Scholarship competition. The West Valley senior also recently took first place in the euphonium division of the WIAA Regional Solo and Ensemble Contest at St. George’s School. He will advance to the state competition this spring.

Idaho

Several North Idaho middle schools participated in the Math Counts competition at North Idaho College recently.

Team results: first place, Lakeland Junior High School (David Bjelland, Kaitlin Kimberling, Jacob Minter, Becky Williams); second place, Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy (Lewis Ellis, Austin Enfield, Steven Munson, Ryan Ward); third place, Canfield Middle School (Tevis Dryden, Alex Gunnerson, Braden Heiner, Nick Induni).
