Wagner helps Cougars to split
Starter Mike Wagner pitched five perfect innings, and five Washington State pitchers combined for a two-hit shutout as the Cougars topped visiting Chicago State 8-0 to gain a non-conference baseball doubleheader split Thursday.
Chicago State’s Jonathan Kohn pitched a complete-game 6-5 victory in the opener.
Wagner struck out the first seven batters he faced, and the Cougars (15-4) retired the first 20 Chicago State (2-5) hitters. Jay Miller recorded two hits and scored three runs for WSU.
Swimming
Whitworth’s Samantha Kephart raced to an eighth-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle at the NCAA Division III Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships in Minneapolis.
Kephart’s effort of 5 minutes, 1.47 seconds was the second-fastest time in school history.
