Stanford won’t dance
Stanford’s run of 11 straight NCAA tournament appearances officially ended Sunday when the Cardinal had to settle for a spot in the NIT.
The Cardinal (15-13) will host Virginia (15-14) in the opening round of the NIT on Tuesday night at Maples Pavilion. It will be Stanford’s first appearance in the NIT since 1994, when the Cardinal were eliminated by Gonzaga in the first round.
After losing two games to open the Pac-10 season, Stanford won eight out of nine to get back into contention for a berth in the NCAA tournament. But the Cardinal lost five of eight to end the regular season and were eliminated in the first round of the Pac-10 tournament by Arizona.
