Grier says he’d listen to Pepperdine

The Spokesman-Review

Gonzaga assistant Bill Grier would be interested in listening to Pepperdine officials if they want to discuss the possibility of him taking over the Waves’ vacant head coaching job.

“Yeah, I’d listen,” Grier said Wednesday afternoon following a practice session for tonight’s Sweet 16 NCAA matchup against UCLA in the Oakland Arena. “But I haven’t called them, and they haven’t called me.”

Grier, 42, is in his 15th season at GU and has a written agreement with the university to become the Zags’ head coach when, and if, Mark Few moves on. But he previously admitted that the Pepperdine job would be one he might pursue if it came open.

And it is widely believed Waves athletic director John Watson will test Grier’s interest in replacing Paul Westphal, who was fired earlier this month after posting a 7-20 record in his fifth season at Pepperdine.
