Baird resigns at Cheney
Citing a combination of reasons, including the desire to spend more time with his children, Cheney boys basketball coach Dave Baird has submitted his resignation.
Baird, who coached the Blackhawks for their four years in the Greater Spokane League, steps down at a time when Cheney is moving from Class 3A into the 2A Great Northern League.
With 14 years in education, he said he intends to remain in the classroom, where he teaches ninth-grade science.
But Baird could pursue a childhood dream of becoming a firefighter.
Baird completed an 8-17 season at Cheney, nearly qualifying for state, and had a 32-59 record at the school and was 111-133 overall, including six years at Liberty.
