Gelato to play mix of music at Panida

The Quartetto Gelato, a chamber group that plays music in a variety of flavors, comes to the Panida Theater, 300 N. First, in Sandpoint on Friday at 8 p.m.

This Toronto-based ensemble plays classical masterworks, operatic arias, folk songs, gypsy music and tangos. The instrumentation ranges from violin to mandolin to oboe to piano to accordion.

The quartet’s name, which translates roughly as Cream Quartet (or Ice Cream Quartet) reflects the group’s musical nature.

“Quartetto evokes the classical discipline of what we do, and Gelato evokes the different flavors of our music and the fun we have,” said co-founder and oboist Cynthia Steljes in a press release.

Seating is festival style – there are no reserved seats.

Tickets are $17.50 for adults, $8.50 for youths 18 and under and $14 for Pend Oreille Arts Council members. Tickets are available at the POAC office in the Power House, 120 E. Lake St., Sandpoint, or by calling (208) 263-6139 or online at www.ArtinSandpoint.org.
