Holmgren still feels Super Bowl blues
Nearly two months after his Seattle Seahawks lost the Super Bowl, Mike Holmgren is still feeling the pain.
Especially about the officiating.
“To have the story of the Super Bowl be the officials, that is crazy,” Holmgren said Wednesday.
Holmgren wasn’t pounding-the-table angry. He was his normal self: calm, rational, even a little laid-back. But he said he still is stung by the 21-10 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, in part because he knows his team didn’t play well; in part because of a series of calls that went against the Seahawks at critical times in the game.
“Holmgren, entering the last year of his contract with the Seahawks, said he will decide in the next month or so whether he wants to extend the deal. “I wanted us to win the Super Bowl and ride off on a white horse,” he said, adding that his wife Kathy would have a say in the decision.
“The Seahawks will open the exhibition season on Aug. 12, hosting the Dallas Cowboys and their newly acquired wide receiver Terrell Owens – part of a four-game preseason schedule for the Seahawks.
The NFC champions will travel to Indianapolis for a nationally televised Sunday night game on Aug. 20. Seattle will wrap up the preseason playing two former AFC West foes. The Seahawks play at San Diego on Aug. 26, and close out the exhibition season hosting the Oakland Raiders on Aug. 31.
NFL curtails end zone antics
NFL owners voted 29-3 to limit end zone demonstrations, including those using props such as Chad Johnson’s pylon putt or Terrell Owens’ Sharpie signing; or another Owens specialty, sit-ups after a score.
Moves like that will draw a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.
Moss’ agent arrested again
The agent for Oakland Raiders wide receiver Randy Moss was arrested last weekend for failing to appear at a hearing stemming from his March 14 arrest on crack cocaine charges.
Dante DiTrapano was arrested Saturday in Clearwater, Fla., sheriff’s department spokesman Mac McMullen said. DiTrapano posted bond and was released Sunday.
Robert Heyman, DiTrapano’s lawyer, said that DiTrapano is being treated at a Tampa, Fla., hospital for an undisclosed condition.
