Tibetan Nuns Project co-directors speaking at NIC today
The Venerable Lobsand Dechen and Elizabeth Napper, co-directors of the Tibetan Nuns Project, will speak about religious persecution by the Chinese government in Tibet at 2 p.m. today in Molstead Library’s Todd Hall on North Idaho College’s main campus.
Dechen is from the Geden Choeling Nunnery in upper McLeod Ganj and Napper is from India. Both women are part of the Tibetan Nuns Project, which assists Tibetan Buddhist nuns who have fled imprisonment, torture and religious persecution under the Chinese government in Tibet.
Dechen and Napper speak in the United States to raise awareness of the nuns who have escaped persecution in their homeland, fleeing across the Himalayas for weeks to reach a safe haven in India among the Tibetan community in exile there.
The presentation is cosponsored by the NIC Molstead Library and the NIC Diversity Events Committee. It is free and open to the public.
