Padres 8, Cubs 3: At San Diego, Khalil Greene homered and Mike Cameron had three RBIs as Cubs starter Greg Maddux couldn’t get out of the fourth inning in San Diego’s win over the Cubs. The start was Maddux’s worst of the year as the Cubs lost their seventh straight game and ninth of 10. Dave Roberts had three hits, three stolen bases and scored four runs for the Padres, while Cameron and Brian Giles each had three hits and three RBIs.

Rockies 6, Cardinals 2: At St. Louis, Jeff Francis had another strong start, and Matt Holliday hit two home runs to lead Colorado past St. Louis for its fourth straight win. Francis allowed six hits, struck out one and walked three in 7 2/3 innings. The Rockies moved seven games over .500 for the first time since July 7, 2000, when they were 45-38.

Giants 7, Astros 5: At San Francisco, Pedro Feliz, batting in Barry Bonds’ cleanup spot, hit a two-run homer and singled in a run, and Noah Lowry went seven innings, as San Francisco ended a four-game losing streak with a win over Houston.
