Vallies helps North Central clinch district championship
Kelsie Vallies threw a four-hitter with 10 strikeouts as host North Central defeated Clarkston 9-0 Saturday to win the District 8 3A championship and earn the Greater Spokane League’s top seed to next weekend’s Eastern Regional.
Vallies also had two hits for the Indians (14-6), and Maggie Capwell added four runs after reaching base on three walks and a single.
Raeanne Cumbie keyed a five-run second inning for NC with a two-run double, and Tran Tran followed with an RBI single.
East Valley 11, Cheney 10 (8): Morgan Manchester hit a game-tying RBI double in the bottom of the eighth, and Echo Abrahamson hit the game-winning sacrifice fly for the Knights in a loser-out game.
Kenna Scheib gave the Blackhawks (4-17) a short-lived lead with a two-out RBI single in the top half of the eighth.
After Cheney rallied for six runs in the top of the seventh to take the lead, EV scored once in the home half to force extra innings.
Clarkston 15, East Valley 5 (6): Zoey Spear was 2 for 4 with a three-run triple in the bottom of the fourth as Clarkston cruised to victory in the second-/third-place game.
Becky Dyer added a pair of doubles for the Bantams (13-9), who finished off the Knights (6-16) with a four-run sixth. Both teams advance to regionals.
