Mets 7, Yankees 6: At New York, David Wright hit an RBI single off Mariano Rivera with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to give the Mets a victory in the first Subway Series game of the year. Carlos Beltran and Xavier Nady both homered for the Mets.
Athletics 1, Giants 0: At Oakland, Calif., Dan Haren allowed two hits in eight innings to win his third straight start, and Mark Kotsay doubled twice and singled as Oakland won its fifth straight game by beating San Francisco. Barry Bonds went 0 for 3 with a walk.
White Sox 6, Cubs 1: At Chicago, Mark Buehrle pitched a two-hitter, and Jim Thome hit his 17th homer to send the White Sox past the visiting Cubs.
Red Sox 5, Phillies 3: At Philadelphia, Mike Lowell, David Ortiz and Jason Varitek homered to lead Boston past Philadelphia.
Indians 4, Pirates 1: At Cleveland, C.C. Sabathia pitched a three-hitter and Grady Sizemore hit his third homer in four games to lead Cleveland past Pittsburgh.
Dodgers 16, Angels 3: At Los Angeles, Andre Ethier highlighted his first career five-hit game with a homer, and Los Angeles rapped out 25 hits in a crushing of the visiting Angels.
Reds 9, Tigers 4: At Detroit, Brandon Phillips drove in four runs, and Adam Dunn and Rich Aurilia homered as Cincinnati ended Detroit’s seven-game win streak.
Orioles 5, Nationals 1: At Washington, Kris Benson allowed only one run in his sixth career complete game as Baltimore beat Washington in the first game between the cities since 1971.
Devil Rays 5, Marlins 4 (10): At St. Petersburg, Fla., Toby Hall homered in the ninth to get Tampa Bay to extra innings and Aubrey Huff’s solo shot in the 10th gave the Devil Rays a win over Florida.
Rockies 8, Blue Jays 3: At Denver, Jamey Carroll ended the majors’ second-longest active homerless streak as Colorado beat Toronto. Carroll hadn’t homered in 663 at-bats – since Aug. 1, 2003.
Twins 7, Brewers 1: At Milwaukee, Tony Batista hit a grand slam and Francisco Liriano threw five solid innings in his first start of the season to give Minnesota a win over Milwaukee.
Cardinals 9, Royals 6: At Kansas City, Mo., Albert Pujols hit a two-run homer and St. Louis overcame a five-run deficit to beat Kansas City.
Astros 5, Rangers 3: At Houston, Adam Everett hit a two-out, three-run double in the eighth inning to lift Houston to a win over Texas.
