Montana gets flood warnings
The National Weather Service issued a flood warning Sunday for the Gallatin River near Logan, Mont., and was monitoring the Clarks Fork of the Yellowstone near Belfry as warm temperatures continued to erode Montana’s snowpack.
The Gallatin River was at 7.3 feet Sunday morning and is expected to continue to rise and reach flood stage – 8 feet – by Tuesday morning, forecasters said.
Forecasters warned people living along the river in that area to be prepared to move to higher ground. Motorists should not try to drive through water flowing over the roads, they said.
Runoff was expected to swell the Clarks Fork of the Yellowstone to 7.1 feet by Tuesday. Flood stage is 7.5 feet, forecasters said.
Flooding is not expected, but the agency planned to monitor water levels.
