Hints from Heloise

The Spokesman-Review

Dear Heloise: I remember some time ago you printed a recipe on how to make bath salts. Could you please reprint your bath-salts recipe? – P.P. from Washington

This is one of my favorites, one of the Heloise “recipes” most often asked for. You will need:

1 tablespoon glycerin (found at the drugstore)

Perfume, cologne or essential oil, like lavender

Food coloring

3 cups Epsom salts

Mix the glycerin, fragrance and several drops of food coloring in a large glass or metal bowl (don’t use plastic, as it might stain). Next, add the Epsom salts a little at a time, mixing constantly until the color is evenly distributed.

You can add a little more perfume and color if the salts aren’t fragrant or colorful enough. Store in a pretty jar with a tight-fitting lid and simply add about 1/2 cup to your bath water. – Heloise
