Geiger identifies inmate found dead

Torben Ty Begines has been identified as the 18-year-old inmate found dead in his cell at Geiger Corrections Center on Tuesday.

An autopsy did not reveal the cause of death, said Spokane County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Dave Reagan. Detectives said they would probably have to wait for toxicology results to know why Begines died.

The inmate returned to the corrections center Monday after doing work release outside the facility. His cellmate told deputies that Begines began acting strangely during the night, Reagan said.

Begines, of Hayden, was being held at Geiger on a second-degree burglary charge.
