Hints from Heloise
Dear Readers: If you live in an area where heavy snow or blizzards happen, you should take these preventive steps to get ready for winter:
“Stock up on rock salt for melting ice, sand for improving traction and snow shovels or snow-removal machines.
“Store extra canned goods and water.
“Order plenty of heating fuel and keep lots of dry, seasoned wood for your fireplace or wood-burning stove.
“Winterize your cars. Check the antifreeze levels and batteries. Windshield wipers, ignition systems, lights, heaters and brakes should be in excellent condition. Keep the gas tanks full.
“Store these items in vehicles: shovel, battery-powered radio, large flashlight, extra blankets, a container of road salt or sand, jumper cables and emergency flares.
“When a storm hits, listen to the radio or TV for weather reports and emergency information. – Heloise
