Baylor tops Colorado St.

Henry Dugat scored four of his game-high 29 points in the second extra period Tuesday night to lead Baylor to an 87-82 double-overtime win over Colorado State in opening game of the West Region of the 2006 Dick’s Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-Off at the Arena.

Dugat made 10 of 17 field-goal tries and seven of eight free throws, as the Bears (2-0) fought through a late first-half lull to put away the Rams (1-1).

Baylor, which got 14 points from Curtis Jerrells and 13 from Aaron Bruce, led by 16 points with just over 10 minutes left in the opening period, but was outscored 21-6 the rest of the period.

Colorado State led by seven points with just over 6 minutes left in regulation, but Dugat tied the game at 66 with 14 seconds remaining. Bruce scored six of his points, all on free throws in the first overtime to keep Baylor in it, and then deferred to Dugat.

The win moved Baylor into tonight’s West Region final against the winner of the late game between Gonzaga and Rice. The title game will tip off at 7:30, with the winner advancing to the NIT Season Tip-Off semifinals.
