Red Wings top Canucks, extend win streak

Johan Franzen’s tiebreaking short-handed goal Tuesday night helped Detroit turn back the Vancouver Canucks 3-2 in Vancouver, British Columbia, giving the Red Wings a franchise record-matching ninth consecutive victory.

Henrik Zetterberg and Valtteri Filppula also scored for the Red Wings, who haven t lost since Oct. 21 in Edmonton.

Flames 3, Blues 0: At Calgary, Alberta, Miikka Kiprusoff made 24 saves as the Flames beat St. Louis for their fifth straight victory.

It was Kiprusoff’s third shutout of the season and 20th of his career.

Daymond Langkow, Kristian Huselius and Andrew Ference scored for the Flames.

Coyotes 4, Wild 3: At Glendale, Ariz., Yanic Perreault and Oleg Saprykin each scored two goals to lead Phoenix past Minnesota.

Ladislav Nagy and Georges Laraque each had two assists for the Coyotes, who have the fewest points in the Western Conference.

Rangers 3, Devils 2: At New York, Jaromir Jagr scored goals 26 seconds apart and Brendan Shanahan finished off a third-period rally just 1:04 later to lift the Rangers past New Jersey.

The Columbus Blue Jackets’ hunt for a new coach is on a fast track that may lead them to Ken Hitchcock, who was fired as Philadelphia Flyers coach last month. Columbus announced earlier that assistant Gary Agnew would serve as interim head coach after the firing of Gerard Gallant.
