Shock pick up 3 players

The Spokesman-Review

The Spokane Shock have been assigned three players by the af2 office. They are:

Tyko Spencer, 5-foot-11, 190 pounds, played wide receiver at Division III North Central College where his name decorates the school’s record book. As a senior, he was named a Division III First Team All-American.

Joining Spencer at WR will be former Grambling State Tiger Cornelius “Chico” Mackey. Mackey (5-11, 208) averaged 21 yards per catch at Grambling.

The third signee is offensive lineman Chris Cook. Cook (6-1, 310) spent his college days at Tennessee Chattanooga, where he started his career as a walk-on and ended as a preseason All-Conference selection in his senior year.

Wrestling

Josh Manes, Heinrich Barnes and Wilson Yates all pinned their opponents in the first round to lead the North Idaho Cardinals to a 44-3 victory over Simon Fraser in Kentlake, Wash.

Manes, a 133-pounder, pinned Jon Candia in 55 seconds. Barnes (141) took just 16 seconds to pin Raj Rai and Yates (174) accomplished the feat against Micha Brakenfield in 2:25.

Volleyball

Amanda Bowman had 13 kills, Stacy Sode tallied 17 digs, and Saxony Brown added 10 kills and 19 assists to lead the Idaho Vandals (10-16, 9-5) to a 30-24, 30-23, 30-20 win over the Nevada Wolf Pack (15-13, 9-6) in Western Athletic Conference play in Moscow.

“Alicia Milo, a senior at Jesuit High School in Portland, has signed a national letter of intent to play volleyball with Idaho.

Men’s soccer

Erik Ustruck, Brian Martin and Jide Ogunbiyi each scored a goal to power the 10th-ranked Santa Clara Broncos (13-4-4) to a 3-2 victory over the Washington Huskies (13-7-1) in Santa Clara, Calif., in the second round of the NCAA tournament.

Matt Fischer and Steve Mohn scored for Washington, which was eliminated.

Skiing

49 Degrees North Mountain Resort will open its season Friday. Chairs 1 and 3 will be operating Friday, and Chairs 1, 2 and 3 will run Saturday and Sunday.

Martial arts

The Idaho Athletic Commission has canceled tonight’s “Pride and Fury” martial arts event at the Coeur d’Alene Casino Resort Hotel after bonding and insurance, required by Idaho law, were not submitted by Wednesday’s deadline.
