EWU loses in finals
Tournament host Sacramento State (30-5) beat Eastern Washington 30-18, 30-25, 22-30, 30-21 in the championship match of the Big Sky Conference volleyball tournament Saturday and will play in the NCAA tournament.
Chrystal Johnson had 18 kills and Mandy Daniels added 30 digs to lead the Eagles (20-9), who are finished for the season.
EWU’s Brittney Page and Addie Webster were named to the all-tournament team.
Eastern and the Hornets have played for the Big Sky title in seven consecutive years.
“Amanda Bowman had 16 kills and 18 digs to lead Idaho (11-17, 10-6) to a 30-25, 30-18, 24-30, 30-24 win over visiting Utah State (13-18, 6-10) in a Western Athletic Conference match in Moscow.
Saxony Brown added 40 assists for the Vandals.
Amanda Nielson had 20 kills to lead the Aggies.
“Gonzaga closed out its season with a 30-20, 30-25, 30-27 win over visiting San Francisco (22-9, 6-8) in a West Coast Conference match.
Junior Becky Jones led the Bulldogs (9-20, 4-10) with 16 kills.
Women’s soccer
Community Colleges of Spokane defeated Lane 2-0 in the semifinals of the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges playoffs at the Starfire Soccer Complex in Tukwila, Wash., and will advance to the championship game.
Lauren Nay had a goal and an assist to lead CCS.
CCS (19-3-2) plays Walla Walla at 2 p.m. today. Walla Walla beat Southwestern Oregon 1-0 in the other semifinal.
Wrestling
North Idaho’s Heinrich Barnes defeated Oregon’s Justin Perch in the finals of the 141-pound weight class at the Best of the West Southern Oregon Open in Medford, Ore.
NIC’s Evan Mattingly took first among 197-pounders.
