Ignited by freshman Quincy Pondexter’s 22 points, No. 17 Washington overcame a sluggish first 10 minutes to beat Sacramento State 83-74 on Sunday afternoon.
Pondexter, an athletic swingman, has been overshadowed by 7-foot center Spencer Hawes as part of the Huskies’ heralded freshman class. But the native of Fresno, Calif. displayed a well-rounded game, making 6 of 11 shots, pulling down nine rebounds and adding four assists.
Jon Brockman added 13 points and eight rebounds, and Hawes made all seven of his shots for 14. A different player has led Washington (4-0) in scoring in all four games.
Alex Bausley led the Hornets (2-3) with 19 points and Loren Leath added 17 points, but made just 6 of 23 shots.

(3) Kansas 87, Towson 61: At Lawrence, Kan., freshman center Darrell Arthur scored 26 points in his first career start, leading the Jayhawks (2-1) to a victory over the Tigers (2-1) in the first round of the Las Vegas Invitational.
(4) Pittsburgh 66, Oakland, Mich. 55: At Pittsburgh, Aaron Gray had 23 points and 13 rebounds and the Panthers (5-0) survived an early scare, rallying for a win over the Grizzlies (3-2).
(7) LSU 88, Louisiana-Monroe 57: At Baton Rouge, La., Glen Davis scored 26 points and pulled down eight rebounds as the Tigers (2-0) beat the Indians (2-2).
Old Dominion 75, (8) Georgtown 62: At Washington, Arnaud Dahi scored 15 points and the Monarchs (4-1) sank six 3-pointers in the second half to beat Georgetown (2-1), ending the Hoyas’ 24-year winning streak at their on-campus gymnasium.
(9) Wisconsin 92, Southern 39: At Madison, Wis., Alando Tucker scored 16 points and Brian Butch added 12 to lead the Badgers(3-0) to the rout of the Jaguars (0-2).
(10) Alabama 72, Iowa 60: At Charlotte Amalie, U.S. Virgin Islands, Alonzo Gee had 21 points and six rebounds to lead the Crimson Tide (3-0) to victory over the Hawkeyes (2-1) in the U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam.
(15) Arizona 102, New Mexico St. 87: At Tuscon, Ariz., Ivan Radenovic scored 25 points and had 12 rebounds and Jawann McClellan scored a career-high 22 points, as the Wildcats (2-1) held off the upset-minded Aggies (1-2).
(21) Connecticut 77, Mississippi 59: At Hartford, Conn., Jeff Adrien controlled the paint, and A.J. Price took care of the rest of the floor as the Huskies (4-0) beat the Rebels (4-1) to win the Hispanic College Fund Classic.
(25) Tennessee 99, Coppin State 65: At Knoxville, Tenn., Chris Lofton scored 19 points to help the Volunteers (4-0) to a win over the Eagles (0-3).
