City opens warming centers

The Spokesman-Review

The city of Spokane activated three warming centers for the homeless Tuesday as temperatures plummeted.

The sites, which are not set up for lodging, provide temporary shelter when temperatures drop to 5 degrees.

They are only available during the night to handle overflow from homeless shelters.

The sites can be open through February but are only available during severely inclement weather, according to a city press release.

They include:

“House of Charity, for single adult males, 32 W. Pacific.

“The Salvation Army, serving families with children, 1403 W. Broadway.

“VOA/Hope House, serving single adult women, 111 W. 3rd.
