Alex Hovde scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds as host Tekoa-Oakesdale beat St. George’s (0-1) 59-55 in a non-league season-opening game Tuesday in Tekoa. The Nighthawks used a 16-9 third quarter to erase a four-point halftime deficit. Henry Butler had 16 points and five rebounds to lead the Dragons. … In other non-league openers, Brandon Haas scored 15 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as Post Falls topped visiting Clarkston 78-49. Spencer Pingel added 18 points for the Trojans, who forced 21 Bantams turnovers. … Jim Cupp scored 20 points to lead Cusick past Lakeside (Plummer) 48-45 at Cusick. The Panthers went on a 6-0 run in the fourth quarter to seal the win. Wyatt Peters led the Knights with 20 points and 15 rebounds.

Shelby Puckett scored 14 points to lead Tekoa-Oakesdale past St. George’s 53-28 in a non-league season-opening game in Tekoa. Chessey Thomas led the Dragons with 10 points. … In other non-league action, Amanda Smith led Cusick (1-0) with nine points, nine rebounds and five blocks as the Panthers beat visiting Lakeside (Plummer) (1-2) 47-42. … Jordan Schoening scored 10 points and Heather Arnone added nine as Post Falls beat visiting Clarkston 51-44. Kandice McArthur added eight points for the Trojans (3-1). Misty Atkinson scored 12 in the Bantams’ season opener.
