Kid-friendly classical music sure to be a hit
Introducing your kids to classical music just got a little easier.
The Spokane Symphony’s Youth Exploration Series for kids ages 8 to 14 is putting the spotlight on Johannes Brahms Friday at 8 p.m. at the INB Performing Arts Center, 334 W. Spokane Falls Blvd.
The concert boasts kid-friendly seats to give the kids a great view of the musicians and includes activities, such as a backstage treasure hunt and a special program book. Kids also can pick up a free Brahms T-shirt in the lobby.
The cost is $20 for adults and $10 for children.

Kids’ workshops
Mobius Kids, 808 W. Main Ave., is presenting classes in the arts and sciences.
On Saturday, Debbie Cotton of the Spokane Astronomical Society will teach “Explore Your Universe” at 1 p.m. Kids will learn about stars, planets and black holes.
If they prefer water, kids can learn about the “World of Water” on Oct. 14 at 1 p.m. in the museum. Representatives from the Washington state Department of Ecology will present hands-on activities to learn about aquifers, water conservation and contamination.
The cost of these events is just the price of admission to the museum: $5.75 per person for everyone age 1 and up, or $4.75 for military personnel and seniors.

Hitting the stage
The Spokane’s Children’s Theatre is presenting “The Magic Mrs. Piggle Wiggle,” a play based on a character from children’s literature, an old lady who lives in a neighborhood full of bad-mannered children.
Her late husband, the pirate Mr. Piggle Wiggle, left her some cures that she uses to help the children overcome their “Won’t-take-a-bath-osis” or their “Talker-backer-itis.”
Performance times are at 1 and 4 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday in the Lair Auditorium of Spokane Community College, 1810 N. Greene St.
The play also will be performed Oct. 14, 15, 21 and 22.

Idaho Italian Festival and Carnival
Food, entertainment, cooking demonstrations, grape stomp, karaoke, children’s activities and more highlight this event at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds, 4065 N. Government Way. The fun starts Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m. Activities continue until 9 p.m. Saturday and 6 p.m. Sunday. Proceeds from the event go to school scholarships. Admission is free, parking costs $1. Christian preschool co-op
Considering Homeschooling of Spokane is sponsoring a preschool co-op in homes in Spokane and Colbert. The co-op meets Mondays and Fridays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. from Oct. 13 through Dec. 18.

Swim Team Tryouts

Learn to Square Dance
The youth group Spurs and Skirts is holding modern square dance classes for youth ages 8 to 18 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. beginning Saturday and continuing every Saturday through spring at the Western Dance Center, 1901 N.
