Welcome Home! Welcome Home!
In decorating and design, indoors and out, life doesn’t always follow the plan. What we want in a heartbeat may take weeks, months and even years to achieve.
We want it now, but we get it when we get it.
Paul and Kathie Scott, the dreamers behind the expansive garden in this week’s cover story, had a five-year plan for creating the perfect garden. That was seven years ago and counting. And they’re not through yet. As the garden grows, so do their ideas.
Our Beautiful Home page features a project that started almost 30 years ago with a woman’s desire for a genteel old house overlooking the city of Spokane. She eventually got the house and she went right to work, but it’s still a work in progress. A basic remodeling plan blossomed into an extensive restoration, and the work continues.
Open any door in your house – in any house – from the front door to the tiniest closet to a cluttered cupboard, and you’re sure to stumble onto old plans, dreams and projects that have taken more time and energy than ever imagined. That’s how it goes.
And ultimately, that’s where the joy of homemaking and gardening can be found: in the planning, perseverance and patience behind a job well done.
