Art tour this weekend
This weekend, strangers will be welcoming you onto their property. No need to knock, just follow the signs.
It is the second annual Spokane Valley Studio Art Tour hosted by the Spokane Valley Arts Council. Last year there were four studios and 15 artists; this year, 30 artists will participate at six studios.
“We are constantly improving,” said Sandy Haupt, artist and arts council secretary, “I’m sure next year will be even better.”
Nan Drye’s converted barn at 4621 N. McDonald Road, is the first stop on the map. Her studio, where she creates mixed media acrylic paintings and unique clothing, will have six other artists showing their work: painters Sandy Haupt and James Dhillon, paper artist Jan Molder, jewelry artists Amy Mickelson and John Wojtulewicz, and Bungalow Craftworks by Tori Bailey, which includes candles and bath and body products.
The second stop, 4810 N. Sunnyvale Drive, is calligraphy artist Jan Kruger’s studio/shop, which is filled with her greeting cards, handmade journals, quotations and art pieces. Stained glass artist Susie Middaugh will join her.
The third stop is Natalie Gauvin’s Liberty Lake studio, 1216 S. Garry Road. Her large paintings will be hung alongside paintings by Victoria Brace and Vicki Almond. Kim Darling’s photographs also will be displayed.
The fourth stop is Denise Bowles’ home at 2105 Meadowview Road in Greenacres. Five other artists will be displaying their work throughout the house including Conrad Bagley’s paintings and glasswork, Rhea Giffin’s papier mache sculptures, Karen Mobley’s paintings, Stephen Rovetti’s manipulated photographs, and Ken Yuhazs’ neon creations.
Potter Lezlie Finet’s studio, 13902 E. 32nd Ave., is the fifth stop. Her guests include painter Linda Christine, doll artist Wendy Zupan Bailey, mixed media artists Jan and Jana Juday, and glass artist Sharon Davidson.
The last stop is at 11717 E. View Ridge Lane. There, Sami Perry works in a large detached garage. She will be displaying her garden art and sculptures on the property as well as the works of six other artists: furniture artist John Luppert, painters Erin Wert, Darrell Sullens and Diane Lemley, glass artist Louise Telford and 3-D mixed media artist Liz Bishop.
Throughout both days, artists will be available to answer questions and discuss their work. Demonstrations will be ongoing, refreshments will be served, and, at a couple of the stops, there will be live entertainment.
