Gross commits to Eastern
Trey Gross, a 6-foot-3 guard from Stockton, Calif., has joined 6-10 Nathan Lozeau out of Marysville-Pilchuck in committing to the Eastern Washington basketball team.
Lozeau visited Cheney two weeks ago and made his commitment Saturday.
Oral commitments are not binding. The early basketball national letter of intent signing period is next month.
Gross said he averaged 18 points per game for Thomas Edison High School to lead the league, and added seven rebounds, earning all-league honors as well as second-team all-area.
Lozeau said he averaged about 18 points, 10 rebounds, three or four blocks and two assists as a junior when he was second-team All-WestCo North.
College volleyball
Cassie Moore set a school record with 36 digs in Whitworth’s 30-24, 21-30, 30-25, 28-30, 15-12 win over visiting Whitman (7-8, 3-4) in a Northwest Conference match Wednesday.
Moore broke the five-game record of 34 set by Amy Colyar in 1992.
She led a Pirates defensive effort that finished with 106 digs, including 31 by Nikki Bardwell. Whitworth (4-14, 3-4) also had nine team blocks.
“Community Colleges of Spokane (10-11, 3-3) swept Big Bend CC (1-16, 0-6) 30-16, 30-14, 30-28 in Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges action at Spokane Falls CC.
Brandy Sonderland led the Sasquatch offense with a match-high 11 kills.
