Ferris, Mead score cross country wins

The Ferris boys finished ahead of Central Valley to win the Jim Danner Invitational on Saturday, while Mead’s boys won the Richland Invitational.

At the Jim Danner Invitational held at Blue Lake Park in Gresham, Ore., Ferris was led in the Northwest Championship division by the fourth-place finish of David Hickerson, who crossed the finish line in 15 minutes, 19.41 seconds. CV took second, led by Sean Coyle, who finished the 5,000-meter race in 15:32.36 to take sixth place.

The West Valley boys finished first in the Division 1 race. The Eagles were led by Richard Keroack, who finished ninth in 16:18.56.

On the girls’ side, Mt. Spokane took ninth in the Northwest Championship division, led by Jessica Klier, who finished in 19:06.31 to place 28th. The West Valley girls won the Division 3 race.

In their Richland win, Mead’s boys were led by senior Dylan Hatcher, who finished the 3-mile course at Carmichael Middle School in 15:09 to take third place. Senior Kelvin Daratha finished in fifth place with a time of 15:16, junior Kelly Lynch took seventh with a time of 15:29 and senior Taylor Nepon finished in tenth with a time of 15:41.

Mt. Spokane took sixth place. Trevin Goodrick was the top Wildcats finisher, taking 19th with a time of 16:13.

On the girls’ side, Mead finished in second place behind West Valley of Yakima. The Panthers were led by senior Nikki Codd, who finished in 18:46. Shadle Park freshman Andrea Nelson won the race in 18:11, and her Highlanders took sixth place.

•The North Central boys and the Colville girls took first place at the Bullpup Invitational hosted by Gonzaga Prep. NC’s Adam Tyler won the race, finishing in 16:45. Teammates Andy Kimpel (16:55) and Leon Dean (16:59) finished second and third. Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) finished second, followed by Lake City. Tournament host Gonzaga Prep took seventh. On the girls’ side, Colville was led by Brittney Williams, who finished in 20:16. Sandpoint’s Megan Bartlett won the race, crossing the finish line in 19:52.
