Chenoweth-Hage’s death draws out the dark side
‘Tis hard to believe that anyone would glory in someone else’s tragedy. But the commenters who haunt the Democratic Underground Web site were rejoicing at the news of former Congressman Helen Chenoweth-Hage’s death in a vehicle accident last week. I’m serious. Here’s lovely Erika: “(Chenoweth) was also just a plain whore. She sold out some of the most beautiful lands in Idaho to industrialists for her profits as a ‘lands developer.’ She wasn’t even an Idahoan, but she did her best to destroy it.” Last1standing: “Sorry, but I just don’t give a damn about hatemongers like her. I just consider it a little more space in the world for someone who might provide a better contribution.” (Last1standing obviously knows something about hatemongering.) “Couldn’t have happened to a nicer gal,” offered Batwing. Commie Pinko Dirtbag summed up the hate for Chenoweth-Hage on the DU thread best when he wrote: “I daresay the BEST possible outcome happened. Survival of all involved would have been a slightly worse outcome. Therefore: HOORAY!” Huckleberries Online’ll link to the long thread by 9 this morning. Finally, on the 55th post, Ducky wrote: “Her politics were reprehensible, but nothing excuses DUers (from) bringing dishonor to this board by being glad another person has died. I thought we opposed the war in Iraq because we valued human life. I thought we opposed torture because we value human decency.” Conservatives can be vile online, too. However, anyone who’d celebrate another’s death, for political reasons, has lost it.
