G-Prep clinches tie for crown
Johnny Jones rushed for 105 yards and two touchdowns on just seven carries, and Max Manix finished 3 for 3 for 59 yards and a touchdown as Gonzaga Prep rolled past Rogers 42-8 in Greater Spokane League play on Thursday at Albi Stadium.
G-Prep clinched at least of the share of the GSL title and improved to 7-1 overall and 7-0 in league. Prep will be the GSL top seed to the postseason.
Rogers fell to 0-7.
Jones scored on runs of 33 and 45 yards, and Manix threw a 38-yard touchdown strike to Michael Stockton.
Jones rushed for 99 yards in the first quarter.
Taylor Fleming and Joel Curry each added short touchdown runs for the Bullpups, and Brian Lee caught a 2-yard touchdown pass from Bryan Karwacki.
Jacob Partridge scored the lone Rogers touchdown on a 24-yard pass from Andrew Durant in the third quarter. Durant finished 7 of 23 for 39 yards and an interception.
Tonight’s GSL games matching University (4-3, 4-2) at East Valley (5-2, 5-2), and Ferris (6-1, 5-1) at Central Valley (3-4, 3-3) will determine if U-Hi, CV, or both still have playoff possibilities.
