Jason Snelling ran for 131 yards and a touchdown, Jameel Sewell was again sharp at quarterback and Virginia’s defense played its best game of the season Thursday night in a 23-0 victory over North Carolina in Charlottesville, Va.

Sewell gained 40 yards, including an 18-yard TD run, as Virginia (3-5, 2-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) won its 13th consecutive home game in the South’s oldest rivalry.

The Tar Heels are 1-6, 0-4.

Central Michigan 31, Bowling Green 14: At Mount Pleasant, Mich., Obed Cetoute finished with a career-high 122 yards on three receptions and scored a touchdown to help the Chippewas beat the Falcons (4-4, 3-2).

Eric Fraser set up Central Michigan (5-3, 5-0 Mid-American) when he returned the opening kickoff 50 yards to the Bowling Green 44-yard line.

New Mexico 34, Utah 31: At Albuquerque, N.M., freshman Donovan Porterie threw for three touchdowns and 350 yards and Martelius Epps scored on a 1-yard run with 2:09 left as the Lobos (4-4, 2-2 Mountain West) matched their biggest comeback with a victory over the Utes (4-4, 2-2).

Porterie, making his second start of the season, struggled through a miserable first half, then ignited New Mexico’s offense with the help of wide receivers Travis Brown and Marcus Smith.
