Cardinals, Steele top Salt Lake
Cody Steele scored two goals, including one in the 71st minute to break a 1-1 tie and give North Idaho a 2-1 victory over Salt Lake in a Scenic West Athletic Conference men’s soccer match Saturday in Coeur d’Alene.
Seth Baker made three saves for the Cardinals, who outshot Salt Lake 9-6.
NIC improves to 10-4-1 on the season.
Women’s soccer
Lisa Carter scored two goals to guide North Idaho to a 5-2 win over Salt Lake in a Scenic West Athletic Conference women’s soccer match in Coeur d’Alene.
Whitney Melton, Holly Meyer and Brooke Donnelly also scored goals for the Cardinals, who outshot Salt Lake 20-9. Makayla Desjarlais made five saves for NIC.
The Cardinals are now 11-3-2 on the season.
Volleyball
Salt Lake beat No. 2 ranked North Idaho 30-23, 30-27, 30-28 in a Scenic West Athletic Conference match in Salt Lake City.
The Cardinals have now lost two in a row against Salt Lake.
Cintia Alessi had 10 kills and 14 digs and Lauren Stern added 31 assists to lead North Idaho.
Cinthia Silva had 18 kills and and Michaela Hanakova had 42 assists and 14 digs to lead Salt Lake.
The Cardinals fall to 28-5 on the season while Salt Lake improves to 24-13.
“ Lauren Mathis had a .323 hitting percentage and added 24 digs but it wasn’t enough as Nevada beat Idaho 30-24, 25-30, 19-30, 30-24, 15-8 in a Western Athletic Conference match in Reno, Nev.
Amanda Bowman added 14 kills and 13 digs for the Vandals. Teal Ericson had 21 kills to lead Nevada.
Idaho falls to 6-13 overall and 5-2 in the WAC.
Nevada improves to 13-8 overall and 7-2 in conference play.
