LC tops CdA to take fourth at state tourney

Lake City beat Coeur d’Alene 2-0 in the State 5A boys soccer consolation championship match at the Boise Capital Soccer Complex in Meridian on Saturday.

The Timberwolves (18-2-1) took fourth place while the Vikings (15-4-3) finished sixth.

“In the State 3A consolation championship game, Community School beat Bonners Ferry 3-2, finishing in fourth place. The Badgers took sixth place. Community School’s Travis Stone had a hat trick. Jesus Mendez led Bonners Ferry (9-5-3) with one goal and one assist. Jody Wilkerson scored the Badgers’ other goal. Cedar Bolton had 17 saves for Bonners Ferry.

Girls soccer

K.K. Long had two goals to lead Bishop Kelly past Lakeland 4-3 in a State 4A tournament match at the Boise Capital Soccer Complex in Meridian. Bishop Kelly took third place while Lakeland (12-6-2) took fifth. Natalie Nichols scored twice for the Hawks. Lauren Coyle had Lakeland’s other goal. Katie Sanders, Michelle McCollough and Ally Ward all contributed assists. Lakeland finished second place in last year’s state event.

Volleyball

Wallace beat Clark Fork 25-15, 25-14, 25-21 in the championship game of the 1A District I Tournament at Clark Fork High School. Heather Moore had 11 kills and Cara Hayman added 22 assists for the Miners. With the win, Wallace (23-5) advances to the state tournament. In an earlier game, the Miners beat Kootenai (9-12) 25-21, 15-25, 25-13, 27-25. Moore had nine kills and Hayman added 25 assists to lead the Miners. In the second-place game, Coeur d’Alene Charter (12-7) beat Clark Fork 25-10, 22-25, 25-18, 25-19 and will join Wallace at the state tournament. Katie Baker had 19 kills and Sarah McHugh added 22 assists to lead the Panthers. Coeur d’Alene Charter lost to the Wampus Cats 23-25, 25-14, 25-22, 25-16 earlier in the day, but the Panthers got revenge after they met to decide who will advance to state. Clark Fork finished its season with a 12-11 record.
