Treat kids to more than just candy this Halloween

Halloween is kids’ play – no matter how hard adults try to hone in on the fun.

According to a National Geographic Kids survey of more than 300 kids (average age 11 years), 32 percent of respondents say wearing a costume is their favorite part of the holiday while 24 percent say getting candy is what rocks. (Others reported enjoying most seeing others’ costumes, going to parties and decorating the house.)

Seventy-eight percent plan to go trick-or-treating, with most of them (73 percent) saying they’ll stick to their neighborhood and/or building.

About half say they share their candy with their siblings, parents or friends. (how reliable is this survey?) while 24 percent say they don’t share any of it.

Nearly 80 percent say they either don’t eat all of their candy and throw some away or make it last more than a week. Seven percent say it’s gone in a few days while 4 percent report that they have nothing to show the next day.

But truth be told, there’s more to Halloween than just trick-or-treating. Here are some of the kid-friendly Halloween activities on tap for the weekend; find more at www.spokane7.com/events.
