North Idaho College will host the National Junior College Athletic Association Region 18 soccer tournament on Satuday at Eisenwinter Field.

The Cardinal women will square off against Western Nevada Community College at 11 a.m. and the NIC men will play Colorado Mountain College at 2 p.m. for the regional title.

Admission to both games is free.

The winner of the women’s match will play the Region 9 champion on Nov. 4 in Kansas City, Mo., while the men’s winner will play the Region 1 winner on Nov. 4 in Coeur d’Alene.

Basketball

The Eastern Washington men’s basketball team picked up its third oral commitment this fall from 6-foot-8 wing Kaylone Riley, who has transferred from Mt. Hood Community College to Phoenix (Ariz.) College for his sophomore season.

“He’s in that Lamar Odom, Boris Diaw mold, a lanky, skilled ‘3’ man,” Phoenix coach Matt Gordon said. “He’ll be really good in that league. They got a steal in Kaylone.”

A native of Las Vegas, Riley averaged about 12 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks for Mt. Hood, Gordon said.

Eastern picked up commitments earlier from Trey Gross, a 6-3 guard from Stockton, Calif., and 6-10 post Nathan Lozeau from Marysville-Pilchuck.

The commitments aren’t official until the week-long early signing period next month.

Golf

Community Colleges of Spokane men and women both earned victories at the Tacoma Community College Invitational.

Tyler Morris finished fourth with a 4-over-par 148 at Hawks Prairie Golf Course in Lacey, Wash., for the Sasquatch, who shot 599 as a team to beat runner-up Bellevue by two strokes. Teammate Jason Azzarito (150) placed fifth. Bellevue’s Richard Lee and Skagit Valley’s Brian Baltzer tied for medalist honors with 144s.

The women carded a 529 team total on the same course and finished 16 strokes ahead of runner-up Skagit Valley. No Sasquatch scores were available. Kaitlin Parker of Skagit Valley won medalist honors with a 159.

“Whitworth’s women placed fourth in the Northwest Fall Classic at the par-72 Tokatee Golf Course in Blue River, Ore.

Alicia Bratlien and Krystal Pitkonen each carded 169s to tie for seventh place for Whitworth. The Pirates shot 694 as a team, just five shots behind winner Willamette, who was led by medalist Whitney Ueno (152).
