Silvertips shut out Spokane

The Spokesman-Review

EVERETT – The Everett Silvertips converted on two power-play goals to defeat the Spokane Chiefs 3-0 in Western Hockey League play on Wednesday night.

Leland Irving made 20 saves in net for U.S. Division-leading Everett (10-1-0-1, 21), which avenged two earlier defeats at the hands of third-place Spokane (5-6-2, 12).

Kevin Armstrong made 15 saves but took the loss for Spokane, which is winless in its last five games.

Zach Hamill had two assists for Everett, which also got goals from Brandon Campos, Jason Fransoo, and Kyle Beach. Beach, a 16-year-old rookie, has seven goals on the season.

The Chiefs return home for a pair of weekend games. On Friday night, they host the Seattle Thunderbirds. On Saturday night, the WHL’s top-ranked Vancouver Giants visit the Spokane Arena.

Seth Compton returned to action for the Chiefs after recovering from an abdomen injury. Defenseman Jared Spurgeon is also skating and should be ready to play within the next week.
