Pullman wraps up title
Grethe Vogel had 13 kills and Katie Spangenberg added 29 assists as champion Pullman (14-0) defeated Cheney (5-9) 25-21, 25-9, 25-4 in the final night of Great Northern League volleyball Thursday.
The Greyhounds will have a first-round bye in the District 7 2A tournament.
Riverside and Colville will face each other in a playoff Monday to see which will be the No. 3 seed and face No. 6 Cheney.
The loser will be the No. 4 seed and will face No. 5 Deer Park.
No. 2 West Valley will also have a first-round bye.
Also in the GNL, Kayla Newberg had 18 kills and four blocks, and Silvia Pecorelli added 22 assists as Riverside (9-5) beat Colville (9-5) 27-25, 25-23, 25-19. Emilee Lepp had 10 kills and 13 digs to lead the Indians. … Bailey Wold had 11 kills and Alyssa Wold had 20 assists and four aces as visiting WV (11-3) beat Clarkston (1-13) 25-23, 28-26, 25-15. Indigo Starr paced Clarkston with seven kills, and Liz Schell had 12 digs and three aces. … Melissa Veale had 11 kills and 15 digs as visiting Deer Park (6-8) defeated Medical Lake (1-13) 25-20, 25-20, 25-20. Carly Dorshorst had five kills, two aces and nine digs in the loss.
“Traci Linstrum had 11 kills and three blocks, and Mallory Mielke had 23 assists and three aces as Davenport defeated Reardan 25-9, 25-12, 25-11 in the District 7 2B tournament at Reardan. Mandy Peone led Reardan with 13 assists. Davenport will play Lind-Ritzville on Saturday. … Also at the tourney, Jenna Kragt led with 13 kills, four digs and four blocks as L-R rolled past Springdale 25-12, 25-15, 25-9. … Cami Bullock had 13 kills and three blocks, and Shawn Hennessey added 18 assists as Liberty beat St. George’s 25-19, 25-12, 25-14. Liberty advances to play Wilbur-Creston on Saturday. … Ashley Warnecke had 13 kills and Julie Clark had 19 assists as Wilbur-Creston defeated Wellpinit 25-12, 25-10, 25-8. … St. George’s defeated Wellpinit 25-17, 27-25, 25-14 in a loser-out contest. St. George’s will face the loser of the Davenport/L-R match on Saturday in another loser-out match. … Kylie Kasselberry had 13 kills and two digs, and Peone added 24 assists as Reardan ousted Springdale 25-13, 25-19, 25-10 in a loser-out contest. Reardan advances to face the loser of the Liberty-W-C match on Saturday.
Cross country
David Fischer finished in second place with a time of 17 minutes, 49 seconds – 7 seconds behind winner Grant Fowler of Asotin – as St. John-Endicott won the team title at the District 9 B meet at Pomeroy. SJE’s Ben Salzman (19:29) placed fourth. Asotin won the girls title led by third-place Jodi Moss, who ran 22:12. The state championships are Nov. 4 at Pasco.
