Wild win shootout over Anaheim
Mikko Koivu was right on target – again.
Koivu scored the lone goal in a shootout to give the Minnesota Wild a 3-2 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Friday night, in St. Paul, Minn., in a matchup of two of the top teams in the Western Conference.
He has three shootout goals this season, but just two goals in regulation. The second-year player is 7 for 9 in his career in shootouts.
It was the third shootout loss for Anaheim. The Wild are 5-0 in overtime and shootouts and 9-1-0 overall, with the lone loss a 2-1 decision to Anaheim on Oct. 20.
Brian Rolston and Nick Schultz scored regulation goals for Minnesota, which has won all seven home games this season, and 10 straight overall.
Andy McDonald and Chris Kunitz scored for Anaheim in its first loss in five games.
Off to the best starts in their team histories, the Wild and Ducks entered the game tied with Dallas for the top spot in the conference with 16 points.
Red Wings 4, Stars 3: At Dallas, defenseman Niklas Lidstrom scored his first two goals of the season to help Detroit hand Dallas its first home loss of the season.
Jiri Hudler and Pavel Datsyuk added goals, and Dominik Hasek stopped 17 shots for the Red Wings. Mike Modano had two power-play goals for Dallas.
Marty Turco made 29 saves and Jussi Jokinen had a power-play goal for the Stars, who had won their first three at home.
Blue Jackets 2, Kings 0: At Columbus, Ohio, Pascal Leclaire stopped 38 shots for his first NHL shutout to lead Columbus to a victory over Los Angeles.
Nikolai Zherdev and Fredrik Modin scored goals to help the Blue Jackets end a four-game losing skid and extend the Kings’ winless streak to four.
For the most part, the Kings set the tempo and controlled the puck throughout the game but failed to score on eight power plays. They outshot the Blue Jackets 38-14. It was the second-fewest shots Columbus has had in a win.
Canucks 3, Capitals 2 (SO): At Vancouver, British Columbia, Markus Naslund and Brendan Morrison scored shootout goals and Roberto Luongo stopped Matt Pettinger and Alexander Ovechkin to give Vancouver a win over Washington.
Jan Bulis and Taylor Pyatt scored in a first period that saw the Canucks outshoot Washington 16-1.
Luongo made 19 saves in regulation and overtime.
