Washington State battled No. 20 Southern California to a 0-0 tie in double-overtime Friday despite being outshot 16-8, including a 4-1 disadvantage in overtime, in Pac-10 women’s soccer play at Los Angeles.

Elysse Van Leer and Kiersten Dallstream each had 1-on-1 breakaways against Trojans goalkeeper Veronica Simonton, but the Cougars (8-5-3, 3-1-2) could not convert the scoring opportunities. Brynn Bemis grabbed six saves for the Cougars, and the Trojans (8-5-4, 1-1-4) recorded a team-record fifth scoreless tie.

“UCLA won its sixth straight match against Washington (6-11, 1-5), and its ninth straight overall, with a 2-0 win in Pac-10 action at Los Angeles. Danesha Adams and Christina DiMartino posted goals for the Bruins (15-2, 6-0), and goalkeeper Valerie Henderson got her seventh shutout of the season.

“Gonzaga clinched its fourth consecutive 10-win season with a 3-1 victory over visiting Montana (9-8-1) in non-conference play. Kelcey Goddard scored her first career goal for the Bulldogs, bending a corner kick into the back corner of the net. Nanda McCormick added another goal for Gonzaga (10-7-1), giving her a team-high seven this season. McCormick has scored in five straight matches and moved into a tie for third with 15 career goals.

“Idaho earned its second consecutive draw after a 1-1 tie with Louisiana Tech (4-9-3, 0-5-1) in Western Athletic Conference play at Moscow, Idaho. The Vandals struck first with a goal from Eija Hodgin, her first of the season, in the 12th minute. Idaho (0-16-2, 0-4-2) had two additional scoring chances in the first half but could not convert. The Vandals outshot their opponent for the first time this season, holding a 17-11 edge.

Men’s soccer

Kevin Forrest scored what proved to be the game-winning goal for Washington in a 2-1 non-conference win over Gonzaga at Seattle. Raphael Cox struck first for Washington (11-5-1, 3-5-1) with a goal in the 42nd minute, and John Palladino scored the lone goal for the Bulldogs (6-8-2, 3-5-1). Washington held a slight edge in shots (11-9) and corner kicks (4-3).

Volleyball

Sixth-ranked Washington outlasted No. 4 UCLA through four games to grab a key Pac-10 Conference win in Seattle. The Huskies (19-3, 9-2) had four players reach double-digit kills, including double-double efforts from Christal Morrison, 25 kills and 13 digs, and Stevie Mussie, 20 kills and 10 digs. Tamari Miyashiro paced Washington’s defense with a match-high 33 digs. Nana Meriweather led the Bruins (22-2, 9-2) with 15 kills and 6.5 blocks.

“Washington State was no match for Southern California, losing to the No. 5-ranked Trojans in three games in Pac-10 play at Pullman. Kelly Rosin had nine digs and a match-high 17 kills for the Cougars (14-11, 2-9), who never led in the match. Diane Copenhagen recorded a double-double for USC (19-3, 8-3) with 14 kills and 12 blocks.

■Jamie Eggers and Monica Groves each notched 15 kills as Puget Sound came from behind to defeat host Whitworth in Northwest Conference action. The Loggers (14-6, 9-4) got double-digit kills from four players, while Rachel Gross led all players with 29 digs. Angie Florence, Nikki Bardwell and Holly Tomlin combined for 41 kills for the Pirates (7-17, 6-7).

“Amanda Misa and Cintia Alessi combined for 42 kills, and North Idaho College topped visiting Snow in four games in Scenic West Athletic Conference play. The Cardinals (30-6, 8-2) came back after losing the first game while besting the Badgers (17-17, 2-7) in attack percentage .354 to .200.

Wrestling

Argos topped North Idaho College 30-12 in non-conference action at the University of Great Falls at Great Falls, Mont.

Returning All-Americans Forest Bouge (125 pounds), Ryan Smith (165) and Mike Kummer (174) notched wins for Argos, while South American Heinrich Barnes (141) earned a pin for the Cardinals (0-2).
