Swogger injury remains a secret

The University of Montana athletic department will no longer provide information on the injury status of athletes.

“Under federal and state privacy laws, we are prohibited from discussing the medical conditions of any of our student athletes, whether it has been a past practice or not,” said David Aronofsky, an attorney for the university. “In fact, Montana law is even stricter than federal statutes.”

On Thursday, head football coach Bobby Hauck closed practice and declined to comment on a couple of reported injuries of Grizzlies players, including quarterback Josh Swogger.

On Wednesday, the Washington State transfer was wearing a bandage on his left hand, which is not his throwing hand.

Cowherd despairs for his Eagles

ESPN radio broadcaster Colin Cowherd, an Eastern Washington University graduate, took a swipe at the Eagles’ Saturday opponent, No. 5 West Virginia.

He told The Charleston (W.Va.) Daily Mail the Mountaineers didn’t have enough overall talent to finish better than third or fourth in the Big Ten or SEC. He said West Virginia needed to play a tougher non-conference schedule.

“There are a million teams that would love to play West Virginia,” he said. “They don’t have to play Eastern Washington.

“Even though Eastern Washington has produced some great players and fine broadcasters, West Virginia can name the score this weekend. Don’t get me wrong. I love my Eagles. But that will be a bloodbath.”

Charles in charge

Charles Barkley said his daughter, Christiana, 17, doesn’t date.

“Thank goodness,” said Barkley. “I just hope she doesn’t start before I go in the Hall of Fame. That way, I won’t have to kill anybody before I get inducted.”
